We are a council of young people who work on community issues and aim to improve how things work.
Who We Are
The Refugee & Immigrant Youth Advisory Council collaborates and advises local organizations and government agencies in South King County on the most significant issues impacting immigrant/refugee communities.
Our Priorities
-
This covers a broad spectrum of health-related concerns, including physical health through promoting exercise and access to nutritious food, mental health support to navigate the challenges of acculturation and trauma, environmental health by advocating for clean air and effective COVID-19 prevention measures, and social health, which focuses on fostering a sense of belonging and cultural expression within the communities.
-
We work towards improving students' lives by creating a nurturing environment within schools. Our efforts have resulted in implementing targeted assistance programs designed to support and empower students. We want to ensure that no student is left behind and that each young mind is provided with the tools necessary to flourish academically.
-
Our primary goal is to provide critical information and resources such as employee rights, unemployment benefits, and the procedures for seeking financial assistance in our communities’ native languages. We want to partner with local businesses and organizations, aiming to create tailor-made employment opportunities exclusively designed for refugees and immigrants.
